Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Malawi have established an Elections Integrity Forum as the nation approaches the September General Elections.
The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) and the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) are spearheading the initiative, with the Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum (CSIF) set to be officially launched on 28 January 2025 in Lilongwe.
Benedicto Kondowe, the Executive Director of NAP, described the initiative as a landmark effort aimed at bolstering civil society’s role in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Malawi.
Among its objectives, the CSIF seeks to foster unity in supporting the government, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), the Malawi Peace and Unity Committee, the Judiciary, the Malawi Human Rights Commission, and other electoral stakeholders to ensure effective preparations, a smooth electoral process, and credible post-election outcomes.
