Contractors urged to avoid building substandard structures

Minister of Gender and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza, who is also parliamentarian for Lilongwe South West, has warned contractors working on development projects against building substandard structures.

Sendeza was speaking during the official handover of classroom blocks and toilets at Chadza CDSS in Lilongwe.

The structures, benefitting Chiwambo CDSS, Ndaula CDSS, and Chadza 2 CDSS, were constructed with support from Let’s Build Foundation.

Sendeza said it is the wish of the government to see that structures being built in the country are of high-quality standards and can withstand natural disasters.

Country Representative for Let’s Build Foundation, Ruth Kawale, said her organisation will make sure there is 100 percent access to secondary education.

“We will use K4.2 billion in our next batch of construction and we expect to reach out to all other districts in the country,” Kawale said

Director for Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education, Florida Banda, cautioned students against damaging school property.

Let’s Build Foundation,  established in Malawi in 2021, has so far constructed 25 classroom blocks in 13 community day schools in Lilongwe and Dowa.
