The Episcopal Conference of Malawi – ECM has condemned what it describes as developing tendencies that demonstrate religious intolerance.
The statement comes after a Catholic nun was reportedly abducted and assaulted by unknown assailants in Zomba who are said to have told her that the assault was due to her religious beliefs.
ECM says people in the country should be allowed to belong to any religious grouping of their choice and manifest the religion without fear.
ECM is optimistic that the Malawi Police Service will dilligently investigate the attack on the nun and other similar cases to ensure that justice is done and religious intolerance is curbed.
