The country’s tobacco industry sales committee has started the gradual closure of this year’s tobacco selling season.
Spokesperson for the Tobacco Commission, Telephorus Chigwenembe, announced that the Chinkhoma Floors were set to close by Friday, July 12.
During a meeting on July 9, the committee proposed closing dates of July 19 for Kanengo Auction Floors in Lilongwe and August 2 for Mzuzu Auction Floors.
The country has thus far generated nearly $370 million from 123.4 Million Kilogrammes of tobacco.
The Tobacco Commission has since described the season as one of the best in recent years.
