Malawi national football team, the Flames, faced a setback in the latest Coca-Cola World FIFA rankings, slipping three spots from 122 to 125.
The drop follows a disappointing performance in the Four Nations tournament last month.
In the tournament, the Flames suffered a 4-0 defeat to Kenya, causing Kenya to climb four places to 107 in the rankings.
Malawi was also edged out 2-1 by Zambia, leading to Zambia’s rise to 86th place.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe have gone up by two spots to 122 after defeating Zambia in the same competition.
In an interview, soccer analyst Kelvin Moyo said this is a wake-up call to all football stakeholders.
He has also suggested that the country should invest in grassroots football to unearth talent for ‘future Flames’.
