Chimwendo drums up support for MCP candidate in Chilanga Ward

Minister of Local Government, who is the Director of Youth at the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Richard Chimwendo Banda, has urged the residents of Chilanga Ward in the area of Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga District to vote for an MCP Ward Councillor in the forth coming by-elections to sustain development efforts.

Chimwendo Banda addressed the community at Kakoma Primary School Ground during a campaign rally, stressing that the leadership of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera aims at advancing various projects, including the social cash transfer programme across the country, transcending regional divisions.

Additionally, Chimwendo Banda reassured the people that the government would continue distributing maize as part of its efforts to address hunger in the country.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is set to conduct the by-elections on 26 March 2023 in Chilanga, Baka, and Kaporo wards.

This follows the convictions and sentencing of three former ward councillors who were jointly charged and found guilty of offences committed while in office.
