Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has called upon chiefs to actively promote cultural values and positive traditions to future generations.
The appeal was expressed during the installation ceremony of two Traditional Authorities and one Sub-Traditional Authority under Senior Chief Khongoni in Lilongwe.
The newly appointed chiefs include Sub-Traditional Authority Malembo, Traditional Authority Msinde, and Traditional Authority Chiwawula.

The minister further stressed the importance of chiefs’ involvement in various developmental initiatives within their communities.
“I urge you [chiefs] to always help the government of the day as well desist from corrupt practices,” Chimwendo Banda said.
Senior Chief Chadza, speaking earlier at the ceremony, encouraged the chiefs to actively contribute to the advancement of their communities.
He commended President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for a transparent and open process in elevating the chiefs.
Accompanying Chimwendo Banda at the ceremony were Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba and Minister of Mining, Monica Chang’anamuno.
The event drew the participation of legislators, the Regional Chairperson for the Malawi Congress Party (Center) Patrick Zebron Chilondola, and various government officials.
