Beach Eagles are the 2023 HTD-FAM National Beach Soccer champions after defeating Sunbird Nkopola 6-4 in a thrilling final held at Sunbird Nkopola Leisure Centre in Mangochi on Sunday.
Football Association of Malawi president, Fleetwood Haiya, praised the competitive final, saying it will help build a strong beach soccer national team to compete in the 2025 Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.
Malawi Beach Soccer Association Chairperson, Gift Chimbalanga, revealed plans to take the game to cities to promote the sport.
HTD Director, Zain Sadik, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s organization and announced that they will soon discuss with FAM as regards sponsorship plans.
The champions, Beach Eagles, received K 3.5 million, gold medals and the trophy while runners up Sunbird Nkopola took home K 1.5 million and silver medals. Third-placed Vinthenga received K1million.
