Arts in the Park unlocks Mw’s potential in the creative sector

Lilongwe’s deputy Mayor Ruth Chingwalu has emphasized the need to nurture the creative sector as it has potential of reducing the job searching margin.

Chingwalu said this at the eleventh edition of Arts in the Park in Lilongwe, a session which opened yesterday and has brought together several creatives whoare showcasing their talents at Four Seasons.

“From what I have seen here I can proudly say that Malawi has exportable talent. All we need to do is to invest in the creatives and most youths will create jobs for themselves,” she said.

Echoing Chingwalu’s statement, Chairperson for the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) in Lilongwe Nick Hall said the sessions are important as it helps artists to network and learn new things from each other.

Director of arts in the department of arts, ministry of local government Humphrey Mpondaminga said government is committed to making sure artists benefits from their works. He said the passing of the National Arts and Heritage bill is a testament to governments commitment of seeing artists profit from their artistry.
