Director of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources for Zomba, Linda Mphande, has advised agro-dealers in the district to refrain from selling counterfeit seeds to farmers.
Mphande made the appeal during a training of agro-dealers on the new Agriculture Inputs Programme (AIP) application system.
The director said there were reports that some agro-dealers were selling fake seeds, pointing out that doing so is stealing from the farmers.
“Please we do not want fake seeds on the market this year,” Mphande said.
One of the country’s agro-dealers, Owner Chawinga from Dekalb, said they will strive to ensure that no fake seeds penetrate the market.
The agro-dealers are being trained on how to redeem seeds and fertiliser.
