Capital Hill to help smallholder farmers unlock markets

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Simplex Chithyola, says government will do everything possible to ensure that smallholder farmers have access to reliable markets for their produce.

He said this on Friday at Chaima in Kasungu District during a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and sensitisation activity organised by Oxfam.

The activity targeted members of farming cooperatives under Santhe Extension and Planning Area in the district as a way of incorporating gender messages in farming.

Gender Coordinator at Oxfam, Lindiwe Jere, said there is need to raise awareness on women’s rights focusing on GBV, child labour and social norms that affect women’s participation in agriculture and access to profitable and inclusive markets.
