Nsanje DC pushes for irrigation farming

Nsanje District Commisioner, Dominic Mwandira, has challenged communities in the District to use irrigation farming to reduce hunger situation.

Mwandira said this on Friday at Dzaladzala irrigation scheme in the area of Traditional Authority Malemia in the district during supervision of interventions implemented by the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) at the scheme.

He said the community’s dedication at the scheme is an indication that irrigation farming can bail out Nsanje District from hunger.

One of the farmers, Grace Banda from Chingwe Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malemia, said despite the district facing Hunger, her family have food because of irrigation farming using solar system donated by EAM.

Among others the District Commissioner also inspected Khome cooperatives in the area of Traditional Authority Ndamera which have also benefited from EAM.
