Girls in the country have been advised to work hard in their studies despite challenges they encounter as they prepare a better future for themselves.
Ladies in Tertiary Education (LAITE), an organisation for girls in universities, gave the advice at Msiki Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba during a mentorship session with learners at the school.
President for LAITE, Mzuzu University Chapter Vanessa Sanga said as girls in universities, they would like to inspire other girls.
“We came here to mentor our girls and share reusable sanitary pads as well as writing materials because we know the challenges that many girls are facing in schools,” said Sanga.
Headmaster at the school, Peter Chisangwi, said the school opened recently and that it lacks a lot of basic amenities like toilets, laboratory among others.
One of the receipients of the pads, Lyness Nguluwe, said lack of toilets is one of their biggest challenges.
“I cannot manage to come to class during menstruation because we have one toilet only for 133 girls,” said Nguluwe.
