Gogo Karonga laid to rest, VP and Muluzi attend funeral

Ellen Karonga fondly known as Gogo Karonga has been laid to rest at Nyungwe in Chiradzulu.

Vice President Saulos Chilima and former President Bakili Muluzi were among those in attendance at the funeral.

Born Ellen Mtambo on December 25 1946, Gogo Karonga passed away on May 10 at the age of 78.

UTM Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati, who spoke on behalf of the Vice President,
said the veep was saddened by her death.

Known by her stylish dressing of national attire wears and wrapped headscarves, Gogo Karonga was a long time supporter of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers since 1970, according to John Magombo, who spoke on behalf of the team.

Gogo Karonga was a member of Dondo CCAP’s Women guild at Nyungwe in Chiradzulu.

She is survived by five children, including member of Central Executive Committee of the UTM, Waillet Karonga.
