Triathlon Union of Malawi is seeking financial sponsorship of K26 million to participate in the 2024 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Saly, scheduled to be held in Senegal on 7 December 2024.
General Secretary of the Union, Grem Chilomo, says they plan to send eight delegates, who are expected to arrive in Senegal on 4 December.
Chilomo adds that the early arrival would allow athletes and technical personnel to participate in workshops leading up to the tournament on 7 December.
A triathlon is an endurance race that combines swimming, cycling, and running across different distances.
Triathlon’s presence in Malawi dates back to 2016 when private competitions were held at Cape Maclear in Mangochi District.
In 2018, Bishop Mackenzie Schools began hosting events, leading to the formation of the Triathlon Union, which now organises all official activities.
