Mighty Wakawaka Tigers have devoured Baka City 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, propelling themselves to the fifth spot on the Super League log table with 11 points.
The match began with a slow burn but the Tigers’ persistence paid off in the 24th minute when Baka City’s Robert Kolneli inadvertently tapped the ball into his own net, handing Tigers an early lead.
The scoreline remained stagnant until the 70th minute when the Kau-Kau Boys unleashed their fury, scoring three goals in quick succession.
Alex Kambilinya, the Tigers’ star striker, netted the second goal courtesy of Wisdom Maulawo’s precision pass in the 70th minute.
Ivan Mwakapenda followed suit, scoring the third goal in the 72nd minute and Masambiro Kalua sealed the deal with a thunderous volley from outside the 18-yard box in the 76th minute.
Despite Taniel Mhango’s consolation goal for Baka City in the 85th minute, it was not enough to bring them back in the game.
Tigers’ Alex Kambilinya’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Tigers’ Coach Leo Mpulula expressed satisfaction with the victory but acknowledged the need for tactical adjustments to refine their attacking strategy.
Dan Muyombe, Baka City’s Coach, attributed their defeat to injuries during warm-up, which forced them to field their third-choice goalkeeper, who conceded ‘silly goals.’
Despite being at the bottom of the league table with just 2 points, Muyombe remains optimistic about their chances, citing upcoming games as an opportunity to bounce back.
