Technology crucial for development – Expert

Digital Innovations Analyst for UNDP, Tadala Dzombe, says technology, if used correctly, can bring transformative change to Malawi by addressing some of the challenges rocking the country.

She made the remarks at the closing ceremony of a week-long Coding and Digital Advocacy Bootcamp with Malawi University Science and Technology (MUST) students at their campus.

The students developed an app meant to identify diseases in maize, as a way of ensuring bumper yields.

According to Dzombe, the boot camp sought to equip the students with the skills needed to contribute to building a more resilient and digitally inclusive Malawi.

Coordinator for the Centre of Artificial Intelligence at MUST, Priscilla Maliwichi, stressed the need to fully adopt technology as a country to leverage the delivery of key services.

The Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi (IDT4M) project is being run by UNDP in Partnership with the Malawi Government with funding from EU and Irish Aid.
