South West Region Police has registered an increase in homicide, break-ins, theft and assault cases from January to June this year, according to a bi-annual report released by the Police’s Office of Research and Planning.
This comes as a total of 3,596 criminal cases were registered against 3,429 cases over the same period in 2023, representing a 5% increase.
Research and Planning Coordinator for the Police, Owen Douglas Linzie, says robberies and sexual offences have decreased.
According to Linzie, a rise in homicide and assault is as a result of mob justice and disagreements between individuals while break-ins and theft is attributed to social economic hardships and released convicts.
On traffic management, the report shows that accidents have decreased after registering 822 accidents in 2023 against 762 accidents registered this year.
