Seed company introduces instalments payment for farmers

Considering the economic challenges that farmers are experiencing this year as a result of El Nino in the 2023/24 farming season, Seedco Malawi has introduced instalment payment system for its seeds to farmers as they prepare for the 2024/25 farming season.

Making the announcement, the company’s Regional Sales Manager, Waddington Lipenga, says they noticed last year that farmers struggled to buy seeds due to economic challenges.

“After selling the produce during harvesting time farmers may keep some money for buying seeds but due to unforeseen circumstances such as diseases, hunger and paying school fees, farmers are left with no money to buy the seeds, so we have come up with this idea so that they can start paying for their seeds through installments and when October comes we will deliver the seeds to them for free,” said Lipenga.

The company produces seed varieties of crops that are grown in Malawi such as maize, Soya beans, groundnuts and rice.
