Sant’Egidio hands over houses to the elderly in Mulanje

A Roman Catholic church charitable organisation, Sant’Egidio, has handed over two houses to four elderly people at Chitakale in Traditional Authority Mabuka’s area in Mulanje.

Mulanje District Coordinator for Sant’Egidio, Bruse Tambwali, says one of the organisation’s pillars is taking care of the marginalised, including the elderly, hence the gesture.

One of the beneficiaries, 72 year old Dorris Macheso, says she will now settle down as she used to move from one place to the other after the death of her husband about ten years ago.

“I used to seek shelter in shades of tea estates as my house collapsed,” said Macheso.

According to Sante’Egidio, the three bedroom houses have been constructed to the tune of K32 million, contributed by its members.
