The 2024 Region 5 Youth Games has included new sporting codes of Karate and Table Tennis, replacing Gymnastics and Taekwondo.
Stanley Mutoya, Region 5 CEO, said this after the finalisation of the official games’ programme.
Mutoya said the decision came as they wanted to stick to sports codes whose facilities require rehabilitation and refurbishment only.
Codes like Boxing, E-Sports, Football and Netball, among others will be the ones available in the tournament which is scheduled to be hosted in May 2025 and it is dubbed “Los Angeles-via-Cairo-with a stop-over in Maputo”.
In 2022, Malawi held the previous edition of the Region 5 Games.
