Police in Lilongwe on Tuesday arrested two people at Nsalu Trading Centre in the area of Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe for allegedly being found in possession of medical drugs without a licence, conducting a pharmacy practice from unregistered premises among other charges.
According to National Deputy Police publicist, Alfred Chimthere, the two are Wellington Chabakha, 65, from Chiudza Village, TA Chiwere in Dowa and Haifeni Matchanga, 28, from Cham’maluwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabudula.
Chimthere said what the two were doing posed a great risk to society as some of the drugs might be expired.

Public Relations Officer for the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA), Joseph Josiah, has meanwhile expressed concern over the tendency of stealing medicine from government institutions.
The two suspects are being interrogated at the National Police headquarters.
According to the PMRA Act, if found guilty, one is supposed to pay a fine of K20 million and serve a maximum sentence of 20 years.
