Parliamentary Committee on Health is dismayed after discovering that most public hospitals fail to provide nutritious meals to patients, with no dedicated budget for hospital staff meals.
This has led to what it describes as an unacceptable practice of staff and patients sharing food.
Committee Chairperson Matthews Ngwale has revealed the findings after oversight visits to six public hospitals: Mzimba, Rumphi, Dowa, Ntcheu, Thyolo, and Balaka.
The committee is in a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health.
