Onesimus bags international accolade

One of the country’s celebrated musicians, Onesimus, has secured the Best New Artist Award at this year’s Africa Entertainment Awards-USA, after surpassing five other prominent African music figures, including Pabi Cooper and Malawi’s fast-rising star, Eli Njuchi.

The Controller hitmaker expressed his gratitude, saying the award signifies that people across the globe are now recognising the effort he puts into making his music.

The 2024 AEA-USA has also seen Mafikizolo winning the Best Group Award, while Holy Ten clinched the Best Hip Hop Award, overcoming South Africa’s Nasty C.

It was also a successful night for Nigerians as Rush hitmaker Ayra Starr won the Best Female Artist Award, surpassing Tiwa Savage, Makhadzi, and Yemi Alade. Wizkid was named Best Male Artist, beating Burna Boy, Davido, Diamond Platinumz, Rema, and Olamide.

The AEA-USA, established in 2015, aims to celebrate African entertainment and promote a self-sustaining Africa that drives social change.
