A 23-year-old woman has been killed and seven other passengers have sustained injuries after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in a road accident in Dedza District.
Dedza Police Publicist, Beatrice Jefita, identified the deceased as Thoko Chambwinga from Chanthunya Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala, Balaka District.
Her body is being kept at the district’s central hospital mortuary.
Jefita reported that the driver of a Nissan UD, with registration number MH 6983, lost control of the vehicle due to speeding while travelling from Dedza Roadblock towards Lilongwe.
The incident occurred near Pinji Village, close to Linthipe 3, where the driver collided with a Nissan X-Trail, registration number BZ 11647.
The collision involved four vehicles in total.
Dedza District Hospital Publicist, Mwayi Liabunya, reported that five passengers involved in the road accident are receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries, while two others were treated as outpatients at the facility.
