Bwaila Fistula Centre calls for support to treat more fistula patients

Margaret Moyo, Country Director for Freedom from Fistula Foundation at Bwaila Fistula Centre, has revealed that the hospital spends about K800,000 to treat one fistula patient.

Moyo made the revelation in Lilongwe during the training of 24 patient ambassadors from various districts in the country.

She noted that the hospital currently has about 54 fistula patients in need of proper healthcare and counseling.

Moyo further emphasised the need to sensitise people about the disease, especially among those living in rural areas, to reduce the number of fistula cases in the country.

Patient ambassador, Fadson Bauleni Mita, has urged men to take an active role in caring for women suffering from fistula by ensuring they receive hospital treatment.
