Nkhata Bay bar operators nabbed for breaching the Liquor Act

Police in Nkhatabay have arrested 6 people for allegedly breaching the Liquor Act and being found with suspected stolen items.

Nkhata Bay Police spokesperson, Kondwani James, says the arrest follows a special operation whose aim was to ensure adherence to the recommended time of closing bars and other business premises.

“Out of the six suspects, five namely Evance Julaye 42, Pearson Nkhoma 34, Esther Mzumara 41, 25 year -old Edward Manda and Hardson Luhanga were arrested for breaching Liquor Act. The first four were operating bars beyond permitted hours while the last one was operating a bar without license,” James said.

James added that the sixth suspect, Dambo Kaponda, 25, was found loitering around Nkhata Bay Boma with assorted items suspected to have been stolen.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday, May 13 2024 to answer their respective charges.
