Some of the country’s models have said the slow growth of their industry is largely due to a widespread misunderstanding about the goals and purpose of modelling.
Speaking during the auditions of Miss Urban Music People (UMP) beauty pageant in Lilongwe, model Amanda Ntaba said most people have inadequate knowledge about the role and the importance of models.
She observed that most models are considered ‘promiscuous or uncultured beings’ despite playing vital roles in different areas, including entertainment.
UMP Festival Operations Manager, Prince Chokotho, said it is pathetic that some people are still thinking in such a way.
The Miss UMP beauty pageant auditions will also take place in Blantyre and 16 successful girls will compete at national level.
