Malawi gets school infrastucture boost

Government has commended the Solon Foundation of Switzerland for implementing 39 educational infrastructure projects in the Northern Education Division, worth K 1.7 billion.

The projects include five science laboratories, two classroom blocks, two administration blocks, 12 teachers’ houses, and 17 hostels for girls across Mzimba, Rumphi, Karonga, Chitipa, and Nkhata Bay.

Receiving part of the structures at Jenda Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba, Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima said the facilities will undoubtedly improve the learning experience for countless students.

Wirima added that the Malawi Government remains committed to addressing barriers to access to education among them being construction of modern secondary schools and girls’ hostels.

Solon Foundation Executive Director, Willie Dhlandhlara said the organisation has been supporting the government in constructing classroom blocks, ICT laboratories, and other essential facilities to improve education.

Jenda CDSS headteacher, Lennie Singini commended Solon Foundation for the project which he said will improve teaching and learning at the school.
