Lumbadzi bridge road accident claims life

Lumbadzi Police has confirmed that a 65-year-old cyclist, Libson Phiri, has been killed in a road accident at Lumbadzi Bridge on the Lilongwe-Kasungu M1 road.

Phiri was struck by a Mahindra tipper driven by 52-year-old Gandule Kunkeyani.

He sustained head injuries and multiple fractures on both legs and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Lumbadzi Police Station spokesperson, Felix Kwinyani, says the tipper also hit another vehicle, a Howo tipper.

The impact caused the Mahindra tipper to swerve and collide with two oncoming vehicles: a Toyota Quantum minibus and a Toyota Fortuner.

Meanwhile, Kunkeyani is currently in police custody while investigations continue.

The deceased hailed from Kanyinji Village, Traditional authority Chitukula in Lilongwe.
