Government has urged Non-Governmental Organisations to consult district councils before embarking on development projects to meet the required needs of communities.
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Owen Chomanika, made these remarks during the closure of the 15-year World Vision Malawi (WVM) Njema Area Development Programme in Mulanje, where he was the guest of honour.
“District councils have social economic profiles that give guidance to social needs of communities,” Chomanika said.
In 2009, the WVM embarked on various projects aimed at transforming lives of people in Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje.
Among the projects are enhancing inclusive education, encouraging new farming techniques and maternal health, in which about 31,000 people have benefitted from the $9 million project funded by Hong Kong.
