Former President Dr Joyce Banda has challenged Malawians to plant more trees as the tree-planting season continues.
She said this at Domasi in Zomba on Tuesday during a tree-planting exercise.
Banda then disclosed that trees would be planted in all housing areas that had been constructed for Cyclone-affected families.
“We want to inculcate a culture of caring for the environment,” Dr Banda said.
She said Malawians should now be better placed to understand the consequences of climate change following the devastating effects of Cyclone Freddy, a climate-induced cyclone that first hit the country on 12 March last year.
Over 500 people died in Malawi after the cyclone hit a number of districts the Southern Region.
