KUFC to support its women’s team

Karonga United Football Club has announced plans to support its women’s football team, Karonga United Sisters, to compete in national tournaments this season.

Ramzy Simwaka, the team’s General Secretary, said this in Karonga on Sunday stressing the need to promote women’s football.

“This is inline with the initiative the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is taking by urging the corporate world to support football and we have some potential sponsors who have shown interest in supporting the team,” Simwaka said.

Karonga United Sisters’ Coach, Mwauke Mwafulirwa, said participation in the tournaments will signify the sport’s growth in the district and the country at large.

On Saturday, the team trashed KK Sisters 4-0 at Karonga Community Ground in a Karonga District Hospital sponsored bonanza.

The bonanza was organised in collaboration with ‘Tikweze Moyo Project’ which sensitises youths on youth-friendly services in health facilities in the district with funding from USAID.
