Tanzanian President calls for peace as Mozambique awaits election results

Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, in her role as head of SADC organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, has called for peace as Mozambicans await the official results of the recent presidential, legislative and provincial elections.

In a statement, the Tanzanian President acknowledged that electoral management bodies and other relevant institutions are finalising the election results.

“Following the unfortunate incident of the death of Paulo Gaumbe, PODEMOS political party representative and Elvis Dias, the party’s lawyer on 19th October, SADC calls upon the law enforcement authorities of Mozambique to take all necessary measures to ensure an investigation is carried out,” Suluhu Hassan said in the statement.

Recently, Mozambicans went to the polls to elect the President and other office bearers.
