Karonga, Chitipa signs development deal with Lotus Africa

Authorities from Chitipa and Karonga district councils as well as Civil Society leaders have signed a Community Development Agreement with Lotus Africa Limited over Kayelekera Uranium Mine.

The signing ceremony was done at Karonga Museum Centre in Karonga District on Monday.

Chairperson for Karonga District Council, Bellium Msukwa, said the signing binds the company and the communities in the district on the responsibilities of both sides.

Kayelekera Mining, through Paladin Africa Limited, stopped its production in 2014 after it was reported that the demand for uranium had gone down globally.
