The Malawi Paralympic Committee’s (MPC) quest to send athletes to this year’s Paralympic Games in France has received a boost after the Irish Ambassador to Malawi, Seamus O’Grady, donated K5.3 million for the event.
O’Grady said the donation aims to motivate athletes who impressed in their previous international games and expects the Malawian team to excel at the world paralympic show.
MPC’s President, James Chiutsi, described the Irish Embassy as a true partner, noting its support for their national championship last year.
However, Chiutsi appealed for more support, stating they are short of K4.7 million to reach their K10 million budget for the athletes to travel to France for the games, which run from 27 August to 8 September.
Four athletes, Mphatso Saukire, Moses Misoya, Estere Nagoli, and Taonere Banda, are expected to leave the country on 21 August for the games.
