Ex-Police Officer convicted for shooting garden boy

The High Court in Lilongwe has convicted a former Police Officer who shot his garden boy at Area 3 in Lilongwe.

Beyod Chapotera shot Conwell Zenasi on 28 April 2021, who later died while receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

The court heard that Zenasi met his fate when he was walking into the house of the convict, who mistook him for a thief.

Chapotera pleaded that the gun accidentally discharged itself after he had forgotten to put it back into safety mode, an argument which did not convince the court.

He has since been convicted and will be sentenced after both the State and the defence make their final submissions ahead of the sentence.

Chapotera hails from Faiti Village, Traditional Authority Phambala in Ntcheu.
