Easter Theatre Festival starts in Blantyre

The three day Easter theatre festival has started at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre.

Speaking when officially opening the event, Principal Cultural Standard Officer in the Department of Arts and Culture, Victor Kajiso Gondwe, said the government is committed to promoting creative works as they are crucial to the attainment of the country’s development blue print, Malawi 2063.

“Theatre is very important for 2063 dream to be realized as it is a source of employment and forex,” said Gondwe.

Director of Solomonic Peacocks, which has organized the three day event, Macarthur Matukuta, said they are happy that the festival has started on a high note.

Besides the festival, Solomonic Peacocks is also celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The theme of the festival is ‘Your talent matters: create, inspire, and enjoy towards 2063’.

On the first day of the event, patrons were entertained by several acts such as Sylvester Kalizang’oma, Babangoni Chisale,Ching’aning’ani and students from Jacaranda School.
