District councils need knowledge of human rights — MHRC

Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has stressed the importance of district councils having thorough knowledge and understanding of human rights principles and standards applicable in service provision.

MHRC Deputy Director of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Lucius Pendame, said this on Monday in Chitipa District during Human Rights Based Approach to Service Provision Capacity Building Workshop for duty bearers.

“This workshop serves as a crucial platform for us to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and explore innovative strategies that will help us safeguard and promote the rights of all, particularly those who are most vulnerable,” Pendame said.

Chitipa District Council Director of Administration, Clement Gonthi, thanked MHRC for organising the workshop which he said that participants are going back knowledgeable and reformed.

MHRC is conducting Human Rights Based Approach to Service Provision Capacity Building Workshops in selected district councils in the country with funding from European Union.
