Connect a School project on course – MACRA

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) says the Connect a School project, an initiative to connect schools across the country to the Internet, is making significant progress.

MACRA’s Director General, Daud Sulemani told MBC Digital that the overarching agenda of the project is to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing digital services and technologies.

According to Sulemani, in the project’s first phase, 75 schools have benefitted, with an additional 120 schools set to benefit in the second phase.

“We have already begun preliminary work on the extra 120 ICT laboratories. The project aims to construct one ICT laboratory in every constituency by December 2024,” said Sulemani.

Through the project, MACRA is establishing SMART ICT laboratories with a 60-computer capacity, providing ICT equipment, including 20 computers in the first phase and connecting each school to the internet for three years.
