COMESA businesswomen bemoan biased policies in financial institutions

The COMESA Federation of Women in Business Malawi Chapter (COMFWB) says unfavourable policies when applying for loans in financial institutions is hindering the growth of women enterpreneurs in Malawi.

COMFWB Malawi Chapter National Chairperson, Selina Mwenelupembe, made the remarks in Lilongwe during a ‘Women Creating Wealth Stakeholder Mapping and Analysis’ workshop organised by COMFWB in collaboration with the Graça Machel Trust.

“There is a need for collaborative efforts on strategic actions for economic advancement among women since majority of them are facing challenges in accessing loans in financial institutions,” said Mwenelupembe.

Graça Machel Trust Country Lead, Evelyn Kamanga, said there is a need to review policies that are affecting the growth of women entrepreneurs.

COMFWB is a nonprofit organisation that connects women entrepreneurs with opportunities for socio-economic growth.
