Chitipa Police, CCJP team up against child abuse

Chitipa Police Station and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) have teamed up to conduct awareness campaigns on children’s rights in schools in the district.

After touring three primary schools on Thursday, Chitipa Police Station Community Policing Coordinator, Frightone Kundimbule, warned School Management Committees and learners of the dangers of child emotional and physical abuse.

“Those found indulging in child marriages and other forms of abuses, the law of the land will take its course. It is the responsibility of every person to protect children,” Kundimbule said.

CCJP’s Karonga Diocese Gender Coordinator responsible for Chitipa, Janet Mhango, concurred with Kundimbule on the need to protect children from abuse.

Lufita Headteacher, Elifa Chiona hailed Chitipa Police and CCJP for the awareness campaign targeting schools, which she said will foster good relationships between teachers and learners.

CCJP is implementing a three-year Gender Sensitisation and Safeguarding Project, which is being funded by Miserier in Germany in conjunction with the Diocese of Muenster.
