Chitimba Communities demand action on delayed Water Supply Project

Communities surrounding Chitimba in Rumphi district have urged their council to speed up the Chitimba Gravity Water Supply Project.

Principal Group Village Headwoman Chibo made the call at Chitimba Trading Centre, highlighting the council’s delay in revamping the water project, which the contractor abandoned in 2022.

“Lack of safe water in the area has brought a lot of challenges such as waterborne diseases, early marriages and divorces just to mention a few,” Chibo Said.

Vice Chairperson for Chitimba Union, Boston Nyirenda expressed concern that there has been no progress of the project.

Responding to the concern, Director of Planning and Development for Rumphi District Council Frank Mfune said the council is planning to resume the project soon.
