Government has re-instated Jimu Layiten as Traditional Authority Kasumbu of Dedza.
The area of Kasumbu had been without a chief for 10 years due to chieftainship wrangles.
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Owen Chomanika, said the chief’s absence negatively affected the area.
“After looking into our books, we didn’t see any problem, it was deemed fit that T/A Kasumbu has to be re-instated,” he said.
Dedza District Commissioner, Thomas Chigwenembe, said the role of a chief is guided by the Chiefs Act Chapter 22 Section 4; which gives the State President the power to appoint chiefs.
