President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has described the United States International Development Agency (USAID) as a great partner for Malawi in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
He made the remarks after meeting a USAID high-powered delegation at their headquarters in Washington DC in the United States of America where he went to convey his appreciation for the organisation’s support to Malawi in various sectors of the economy.
Dr Chakwera also called for more support from USAID towards improvement of people’s livelihood through its interventions.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, said USAID has been working closely with the Government of Malawi and local organisations to address the Malawi’s development challenges.
Tembo said during the meeting, the USAID delegation, led by Robinson Prosper who is Coordinator for Africa, assured the President that the organisation will continue to push for it’s main goal, which is to build a more self-reliant Malawi through investment in various sectors including mining.
