Government steadfast in promoting youth empowerment

Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, has urged the country’s youth to take bold steps towards economic empowerment.

Mkandawire said this on Tuesday in Mangochi at the National Youth Conversation Series which were organised by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM).

He emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting youth initiatives so that they become successful entrepreneurs.

To achieve this goal, the minister said the government has simplified National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans by making them more accessible to young people and promoting Agriculture Commercialization (AGCOM), an initiative that encourages youth to venture into commercial agriculture.

“The efforts that the Ministry of Youth is doing demonstrate President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s dedication to empowering Malawi’s youth, as seen in the reformation of the National Youth Service, which will see young people economically transformed,” Mkandawire said.

NYCOM’s Board Chairperson, Duncan Chiyani, said the National Youth Conversation Series have successfully identified various challenges faced by Malawi’s youth and is working towards addressing them.

Chiyani said NYCOM has also developed strategies to tackle some issues and is exploring solutions for others.
