President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank that Malawi will remain on track in its quest to transform its economy.
Dr Chakwera made the remarks during a high-level meeting with Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva and the World Bank Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, in Washington DC, United States of America.
“It was imperative for the President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to meet the leaders of the two banks to assure them of his commitment to turnaround Malawi’s economy for the betterment of its citizenry,” said Simplex Chithyola Banda, Minister of Finance.
The discussions with the IMF focused on the progress of Malawi’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the country’s efforts in debt restructuring.
Chithyola Banda said the President expressed gratitude for the support extended by the IMF and the World Bank.
He said the World Bank has commended Dr Chakwera for being the champion of the IDA 21, an organisation that mobilises financial support for African countries.
