Entrepreneurs compete for top prizes in Malawi’s Young Builders Challenge

Three outstanding young entrepreneurs are set to be rewarded with start-up capital and business mentorship as the Young Builders Challenge Competition reaches its national finals in Lilongwe.

The competition, organised by the Paul Katema Foundation, will culminate on Saturday, 14 December 2025, at Crossroads Hotel, where finalists will pitch their business ideas before a panel of judges.

The winners will receive start-up capital prizes of K5 million, K2.5 million and K1 million, alongside structured and ongoing business mentorship designed to help turn their ideas into sustainable enterprises.

The three winners will be selected from 10 national finalists, chosen from more than 700 applications submitted by young entrepreneurs from across the country.

In a press statement, the Founder of the Paul Katema Foundation, Paul Katema, said the finals mark a key milestone for youth entrepreneurship in Malawi, noting that the initiative aligns with Malawi Vision 2063.

He said the challenge supports the national development agenda by promoting mindset transformation, innovation and business readiness among young people.

“Our goal is to ignite ambition and support practical action among young people who are ready to build and shape the Malawi we envision. These finalists represent hope, innovation and the determination needed to drive our nation forward,” said Katema.
