Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC) has called on authorities to swiftly take action against the perpetrators of school vandalism.
This follows the vandalism at Kamwanya Community Day Secondary School in Mchinji, where 7,200 textbooks were set ablaze and ICT laboratories were damaged.
A statement co-signed by CSEC Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe and Board Chairperson Limbani Nsapato made available to MBC advocates for criminal prosecution against the perpetrators.
‘We strongly advocate for stringent measures to hold perpetrators accountable, including criminal prosecution, financial restriction for damages, and expulsion from public institutions,” adds the statement.
Speaking to MBC, Kondowe said the vice is not only depriving innocent students of their right to education but also unjustly drains hard-earned taxpayers’ money.
Besides the incident at Kamwanya in Mchinji, nine other secondary schools have met a similar fate.
Police have already apprehended nine students in connection with the Mchinji incident.
