Authorities at Zomba Mental Hospital are calling for support during the festive season for patients at the referral facility.
The hospital’s Director, Dr. Raphael Piringu, said patients need food and moral support to actively be a part of Christmas and New Year festivities.
Dr Piringu made the remarks after concerned Zomba citizens, led by City Mayor Christopher Jana, donated foodstuffs and other items to patients at the facility.
“Some of the patients here cannot remember their homes and their relations stopped coming several years ago but still we have to take care of them. We are asking people to come and cheer these people as they too need support,” Piringu said.
Jana stated that Jesus is love and that love has to be extended to people who most of the time are neglected.
Zomba Mental Hospital is the government’s biggest mental health facility and has a 400-bed capacity.
